Home, sweet home! Finally, competitive football returns to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One West.

With the commencement of the new league season this Saturday, we look back on what had happened on previous Saturday's in our non-league semi-professional history. And, it will be centered on 2010, 2004 and 1999.

Well, here we go again then! It has been a seriously long wait but the Rams get back to competitive league action with a trip over to the Wirral to face City of Liverpool.

It was the 20th September 2014 when promoted Ramsbottom United, playing in the Northern Premier League Premier Division for the first time after the dramatic play-off win over Bamber Bridge, headed across the Derbyshire Dales to face the well established Ilkeston FC.

It was a day that the club had waited for. For a very, very long time. Tony Cunningham, who was assistant secretary then, players Grant Shenton and Phil Dean and co-manager Anthony Johnson share their recollections of the build-up, the game and the afterwards!

As the sound of “We are the Champions” reverberated around the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium, Ramsbottom United captain Andy Dawson gleefully collected the Championship Trophy from League Chairman Dave Tomlinson before a delighted crowd of 546.
