Ramsbottom United are delighted to announce the signing of striker-winger Mwiya Malumo.

The 22-year-old joins the club from North West Counties side Irlam, having impressed manager Lee Donafee whilst playing for Radcliffe in pre-season.

Zambian born Malumo, who played for his country’s Under 20s and Under 23s, started his career with Oldham Athletic before switching to Wigan Athletic, playing twice for the Latics in the EFL Cup in the 2017/18 season.

On his release from the DW Stadium, he joined Swedish third tier side Götene IF in 2019 before heading back to Manchester where he joined Irlam.

He made the move to Radcliffe ahead of the 2021/22 season, having impressed then manager Lee Fowler during a pre-season friendly but only played twice for the NPL Premier side before heading back to Irlam.

Mwiya, more affectionately known as ‘Mo’, is excited about the prospect of playing for Ramsbottom. “I am coming to Rammy to try and make progress in my career and to move on to be a better player.

“Lee [Donafee] saw me play in the game against Radcliffe in pre-season and liked what he saw so I am looking forward to getting started.”

The manager confirmed his signing last night. “I thought he played really well against us in that pre-season game and when I saw that he was back at Irlam again, I thought he would be an excellent signing for us.”

Mwiya is eligible to face 1874 Northwich this afternoon.

Welcome to Rammy, Mo!
