Ramsbottom United are delighted to announce the signing of 24-year-old defender Josh Askew. Josh started his career at Blackburn Rovers and made a loan spell to Ramsbottom back in late 2016.

Josh had a fantastic loan spell at the Rams and he is a real favourite amongst the Rammy faithful. Despite the fact Askew is only 24 years old he has a wealth of experience playing at our level and higher and has played for clubs such as Salford, Curzon Ashton, FC United of Manchester and most recently Stalybridge.

This is the first signing of David Chadwick’s reign since taking over from Lee Donafee earlier this week. Chadwick said, “Josh is a player I have always kept an eye on and just the kind of player we need here at Ramsbottom and a winner and I’m looking forward to working with him again”.

Josh told the club’s website “I’m excited to be back at Rammy, it’s going to be really nice seeing some old faces again amongst the fans.

“I want to come in and play and do the best I can for Chaddy and for the team. We all know the task ahead and that’s to do our best to try and keep this fantastic club up this season and we will all do the best that we can to avoid relegation. I have worked with both Jimmy and Chaddy before and I’m excited to get going on Saturday under them both.”

We’d also like to welcome Jordan Scanlon, the 19-year-old midfielder joins the club on a month’s loan from League Two side Rochdale.

In other news, Ben Halfacre and Aaquil Campbell have also been released from the club. Everyone at Ramsbottom would like to say thank you for their service and commitment to the club and we wish them all the best for the future.
