As was reported on the Mossley AFC Twitter feed and website, Mason Fawns has left the Rams and signed for the fellow NPL Division One West side.

MASON FAWNS SIGNS FOR LILYWHITES:

Mason joined the Rams ahead of the 2019/20 season and made 38 appearances – 27 starts and 11 off the subs bench. Of course, according to the official line, he never played a single league game for us as the two seasons he was with us were both the ‘null and void’ campaigns!

The former Oldham Athletic youngster certainly made an impression, particularly in the second of the curtailed seasons where he scored five goals in the 12 games played – he was only one of just five players to play in all 12 in the 2020/21 season.

He opened his goal scoring account for the Rams when he slotted home the seventh in the 2019 Boxing Day 7-1 mauling of the club he has just joined, after coming on as a 66-minute substitute when we were already 6-1 up.

But it was the 2020/21 season where he excelled and was rewarded by being named the Ramsbottom United Irwell Works Brewery Supporters Club Player of the Month for October 2021 (receiving the trophy in the picture for his article).

His leveller in the FA Cup game with NWCFL side Irlam Town changed the game in our favour before hitting the target again seven days later away at Widnes, putting us 2-0 ahead on the half-hour.

A superb goal in the FA Cup game at Seel Park brought the game level just a few days later, giving him three goals for the month and with his work rate outstanding, it was something that was firmly recognised by the supporters as they named him as the Player of the Month.

He didn’t stop there – who can forget that epic FA Trophy game at Worksop where Mason’s goal on 69 minutes hauled us from 3-0 down to move 4-3 ahead, only for Worksop to equalise with three minutes left and us go down on a penalty shootout.

His fifth goal of the season and final goal for the Rams – he scored six in total – was at home to Kendal Town.

Thank you Mason for your efforts in the Rammy blue.
