Women’s round up and Rec team debut

The 100% start continued in week two, with both sides picking up three points from their respective fixtures while treating the fans at Top Park to a glut of goals along the way.

Rachel Henry grabbed a hat-trick – taking her tally to five goals already this season – with Player of the Match Lilly Howarth and Victoria Westerman also getting on the scoresheet to complete a 5-0 win over Leigh Genesis.

Then it was the Reserves’ time to shine, with a Niamh Downey-inspired 5-4 win over North Walkden, in which she scored all five of the side’s goals. No guesses for who picked up Player of the Match for this one!

The following Sunday, the Reserves narrowly lost out to Chadderton in their top-of-the-table clash at the Emplas Commercial North Stadium. After going three goals down early in the first half, they battled hard to make amends, spurred on by the energy of Player of the Match Devon Booth. Olivia Yeo scored a brace in the second half, but it was not quite enough to claim any points, as the team remained in second place in the Division Three table.

Later that day, the Recreational Team (pictured above), made up of mums of Rammy junior players, played their first-ever match in the Manchester Women’s Flexi-League in front of a healthy Top Park crowd. Although ultimately losing 4-2 to Bury Maroons, the ladies really grew into the game, with Sinead Glover and Claudia Parker getting on the scoresheet and Caroline Gough and Chantelle Morris picking up Player of the Match awards.

Last Sunday saw the First Team progress in the Open Age Cup following a dominant 6-2 win away at De La Salle (highlights and photos below). Player of the Match Rachel Henry took her tally to nine goals in three games, with further strikes from Lilly Howarth and Nicole Duffy setting up a second-round trip to Tiki Taka on 15th November.
