WOMEN’S PRE-SEASON UPDATE

July Friendlies:

13th July v Crompton Ladies
The team’s first ever match finished a 2-2 draw against a strong Crompton team. Rachel Roberts gave Rammy the lead, becoming the first woman to score a goal for Rammy United! Crompton equalised before Gemma Hodcroft again gave Rammy the lead. Crompton continued to push and got their reward late on with an equaliser. Photos from this game are below.

20th July v Chorley FC Women
Another stern test for the team saw them play a young Chorley FC side away at Coppull United’s ground. Chorley took an early lead and scored again to be 2-0 up at half time, but Rammy fought back, scoring early in the second half via a trialist and then equalising with a fantastic long-range shot from Alyssa Woods. Sadly they couldn’t quite hold on for the draw and Chorley scored the winner with the last kick of the game to win 3-2.

31st July v Blackburn Eagles
Rammy were back at Top Park for their final friendly in July, playing Blackburn Eagles in a well-attended midweek fixture. The two teams matched each other whilst playing some attractive and battling football until the deadlock was finally broken part way through the second half. Nicole Duffy drove down the wing and fired the ball into the box, a trialist’s shot was deflected but only as far as birthday girl Gemma Hodcroft who slotted home from close range.

Rammy defended resolutely to make sure that no comeback was possible for the opposition and were delighted to celebrate their first win when the whistle blew with a hard-earned 1-0 victory.
