Winning start for both women’s teams

What a way to start the new season, with away wins for both our First Team and Reserves last Sunday!

The First Team kicked off their Division Two campaign with a 5–3 win at Little Lever Sports Club. Player of the Match Rachel Henry bagged a brace, with further strikes from Dani Crawshaw, Lilly Howarth and Charlotte Pearson sealing the three points.

Manager Ste Ryan said: “It was great to start the season with three points and reward the hard work the players have put in throughout pre-season. There were plenty of positives in the performance, but we know there’s still lots to improve on. The attitude and togetherness of the group were excellent, and now it’s about building on that start and carrying the momentum into the next games.”

Over in Astley, the Reserves (pictured above) enjoyed a 3–0 win against Manchester Vixens. Goals from Niamh Downey, Clio Thompson and Player of the Match Ruby Fentem got their Division Three season off to a winning start.

Managers Jack Nicklin and Al Liotti were thrilled with the win, saying: “As coaches, we couldn’t be prouder of the players for starting their league campaign with a fantastic 3–0 win and a thoroughly deserved clean sheet. In an extremely physical and fiercely contested game, they stood up to every challenge, battled for one another and showed tremendous character from the first whistle to the last.”

Both teams will be keen to continue the good start with the Firsts taking on Leigh Genesis and the Reserves facing North Walkden at midday and 3pm respectively in a “Top Park Double-Header” this Sunday (13th).

Entry is free and the tea bar will be open for drinks and snacks so why not come down and support The Ewes?
