The Rams were hit with the news at the weekend that Ramsbottom-born defender Will Hall’s loan spell from National League outfit Altrincham was not to be further extended.

20-year-old Will, who was named Ramsbottom United Supporters Club Player of the Month for September, following several excellent performances, was recalled by his parent club and immediately sent out to NPL Premier side Ashton United – a third loan spell for the him having played at Whitchurch Alport in the NWCFL previously.

It was a significant dent to manager Lee Donafee plans.

“It is a massive blow for us losing Will but it is one of them things when you get a lad in on loan from a club higher up the league scale.

“We are really sad to see him go as we became quite close personally over the four months he was with us and he was enjoying being a part of what we have been doing.

“It is a natural progression for him to take a step up although I did think we would keep him with us until January.

“Ashton United have got themselves a great signing and I do want to go on record to say a huge thank you to Altrincham for letting Will get some playing time with us.

“He has been outstanding for us, really solid at the back and was becoming a fans favourite in the team because of his performances and that is a Rammy lad too.”

Will played 16 games for the Rams, starting 14 and having two appearances off the substitutes bench and scored one goal – our opener in the 3-0 away win at Mossley.

Thank you Will, for your efforts in your hometown club colours. We wish you every success at Ashton United and in your future career with Altrincham and beyond.
