Ramsbottom United can confirm the departure of midfielder Tony Donaldson due to personal reasons.

Tony has made 72 appearances for the Rams across four seasons, scoring eight goals.

In a message to the fans, he said: “Just want to thank Ramsbottom as a club and all the supporters who have been brilliant with me during my time as a Ram.

“I’ve had three spells at the club and enjoyed them all.

“I’m gutted I have to leave this way and cannot stick it out till the end of the season so I can only apologise and let you all know that due to a family reason I have to move on from Ramsbottom to be closer to home as a priority

“I didn’t want it to come to this but over time it’s become more difficult to manage the travel and remain at home.

“The club have done all they can to help and support me and I cannot thank them enough.

“Ramsbottom is a top place with great people.

“All the best, Donaldo”

Manager Lee Donafee added: “It’s with a heavy heart that Tony Donaldson has had to leave Ramsbottom to be closer to home for personal reasons.

“For the past couple of months, Tony has remained loyal to Ramsbottom and tried to balance his commitments.

“I spoke with Tony before Christmas and we were aware that this may happen where he would need to be closer to home.

“Lads in non-league give a lot of commitment that goes unseen and Tony travelling to Workington on Tuesday night was proof he was still trying to see out the season, but unfortunately circumstances have changed and we all wish TD all the best on and off the pitch.”

Everyone at Ramsbottom United would like to wish Tony all the best for the future!
