ROTHER’S DOUBLE CENTURY

Midfielder Jamie made his first Rams debut all the way back in 2015.
But not Jamie and, as he becomes the 10th player in the semi-professional era to pass 200 games for the Rams, his legendary status amongst the very greats the club has seen is firmly assured.
When Jamie moved across from Salford City, where Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley had joined after their departure from Rammy, it was quickly apparent that things weren’t going to be easy. He scored in his second game against Rushall Olympic and the Rams stayed up.
However, he would only win two of his first 23 games starting, such was the turmoil the club found themselves in. It would have been very easy to leave but he didn’t. Injury has hampered him though as he missed much of the 2015/16 season and returned for the first three games of the 2016/17 campaign following his Achilles snap.
Brighter times did come under Chris Willcock, being a part of the Ramsbottom United side that went all the way to the last 16 of the FA Trophy and those memorable games against Weymouth – the night before he flew to South Africa on his honeymoon, much to his bride’s chagrin – and those AFC Fylde clashes, which he described as the highlights of his Rammy career, he also guided the Rams to within touching distance of promotion from NPL Division One but for the Covid-19 outbreak.
Who can forget his 88th minute goal at Marine in March 2020 (pictured above) that set pulses racing about what might be … and, of course, what never was!
A superb club man, the midfielder put his heart and soul into playing for Ramsbottom United, seeing many good times and many bad. It was in 2022 when, after eight years with us, he decided to try something new and switched across to Avro, but always had the Rams in his heart. He didn’t really want to leave and the door was left ajar for him to return. And return he did at the start of the 2025/26 season.
A firm fan favourite, to see Jamie back in Rammy blue this season has been outstanding and he joins the pantheon of the very greats to wear Rammy blue, joining Dean, Shenton, Gaskell, Blackley, Pilkington, Robinson, Smalley and Spencer in the 200 club.
OK, he’s got double the amount of yellow cards than he has goals (34 yellows and 17 goals) and a single sending off but Jamie Rother stands tall and we congratulate him on reaching this significant milestone for the club.
