Ramsbottom suffered a heavy defeat as they started life in the North West Counties Premier Division, goals from Wythenshawe’s Adam Davies, Darrhyl Mason, Bryan Ly and an unfortunate own goal sunk the Rams.

It was a cagey start to the game with both sets of players trying to get a feel for one another with neither side willing to take a risk. The game began to come alive after 25 minutes and the first real chance of the game fell the way of the Rams as Damola Sotona struck a sweet half volley from the edge of the 18 yard box but unfortunately his effort rose narrowly over the crossbar.

Rammy managed to get something of a foot hold in the game and they very nearly opened the deadlock on 33 minutes as central defender Oscar Radcliffe saw his headed effort cleared off the goal line.

Then just on half time disaster struck for Ramsbottom as the hosts hit on the counter attack, a low driven cross into the box from the hosts captain Chris Howard took a wicked deflection off the foot of Maine Walder and it completely wrong-footed goalkeeper Ryan Haymer and the hosts found themselves in front.

As the second half began the away side were eager to get back on level terms and as Matt Dudley was set free through the center of the pitch on 57 minutes he looked to be through on goal as the goalkeeper completely wiped him out. After long discussions with his assistant the referee somehow only came to the conclusion of a yellow card and Kyle Haslam managed to remain on the pitch.

From the subsequent freekick captain Johnny Black tried his luck from 30 yards and what a thunderbolt it was, forcing the goalkeeper into a fantastic save.

The Rams continued to apply the pressure and a wonderful chance presented it’s self for Jenkins five yards out from goal but somehow the midfielder managed to direct the header over the bar.

As the visitors continued to push the hosts were trying to hit on the counter attack and on 88 minutes one came to fruition as they broke down the left hand side, they played a lovely ball across the face of the goal and Adam Davies was there to slot past Rams stopper Ryan Hamer.

The game was now out of reach for Rammy but Wythenshawe were eager to make sure and they added their third of the afternoon as Darrhyl Mason smashed home from close range on 92 minutes. Ramsbottom well and truly capitulated and on 94 minutes Bryan Ly had made it four with a sensational solo goal.

Not the start that Rammy had in mind but the scoreline certainly did flatter the home side in the end. We face off against Isle of Man on Wednesday night which Is the perfect opportunity to put things right and get our season started.
