Ramsbottom have now failed to find the back of the net in any of their last four games and it was missed chances that cost them dearly in this one.

The Rams were fast out of the blocks pressing from the front in the first minute and making it uncomfortable for Kidsgrove. It didn’t take long for the chances to start coming for Ramsbottom either when Jamie Rother struck a beautiful effort goal bound from around 20 yards out but it whistled narrowly wide of the post.

On around 15 minutes the away side broke fast from a corner with Murphy being able to spin the defender on the halfway line and he set Billy Hassler-Cregg free, who only had the keeper to beat but Ryan Brown was down fast to make an excellent save.

Rammy continued to keep up the pressure with Domaine Rouse hitting the post with a header and Khalil Osi-Efa’s rebound effort being cleared off the line accidentally by his team mate Godwin Abadaki.

The Rams saw the remainder of the first half out in the same fashion, creating good chances and getting plenty of balls into the box but they just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Kidsgrove were a little faster at the start of the second half trying to ensure that it wasn’t a repeat of the first 45 minutes. Kidsgrove created their first real chance of the game as Kieran Brown only had Tom Stewart to beat but his effort was smashed wildly over the bar.

The visitors started to dictate the latter stages of the second half much like they had in the first. Ramsbottom were desperately pushing for a late winner, whilst the hosts seemed to be happy with the draw after Oliver Jepson was booked for time wasting.

Despite all of Ramsbottom’s efforts the best chance of the game fell to Kidsgrove on 85 minutes when their number nine Kieran Brown managed to skip past a Bamba challenge to leave him with just the Rams number one to beat. Brown had all the time in the world to pick his spot and grab what would have most likely been the winner but he just seemed to freeze and Stewart was fast out to rob the ball back.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Rammy who created some fabulous chances but just couldn’t find the back of the net despite their dominance for large parts of the game.
