Ramsbottom United are delighted to announce the signing of striker Hugo Rodriguez from Kendal Town.

The 33-year-old attacker, who stands at 6ft 6ins, has been on Rammy’s radar for a while, having been approached back in November 2020 to come and join under the previous management.

However, the Kendal club captain decided to stay put as the 2020/21 season came to its early conclusion.

The prolific front man was in high demand from a number of clubs, including some closer to Kendal, but put pen to paper for the Rams on Tuesday evening, flanked by chairman Harry Williams and manager Lee Donafee.

Hugo played for Spanish giants Sevilla as a youngster but fell out of love with the game for a number of years. He started up again with Preston-based Fulwood Amateurs, scoring 28 goals in 37 appearances for them before moving to Kendal Town and becoming their captain for the handful of appearances he made for them across the last two campaigns.

He heads to the HWRS looking to turn around our fortunes and the manager was thrilled to have secured his signature.

“He is a player we know well as we have previously tried to sign him in the past,” Lee said.

“But it is no secret that we needed forwards and, when meeting him this week, we were able to agree his registration and it left us buzzing.

“A top honest lad, Hugo will bring more than just goals to the group. His attitude and work rate is hard to be matched and he will give his all for the club.

“This is a massive signing for Rammy.”

Hugo was also excited about the prospect. “Rammy tried to sign me last year but it didn’t feel the right time for me as I’ve only just started playing for Kendal and I was given the captaincy so wanted to play at full season before I considered any other options.

“However, due to Covid, things didn’t plan out the way I wanted.

“This year I got myself really fit during pre-season and after a first good game I got a damaged tendon so I’ve been out since unfortunately.

“A few clubs have approach me but Rammy was always the option for me since I spoke to the gaffer Diego and Warren, who have been a key part on me signing for the club.

“I have always heard really good things about the club and I looking forward to the new challenge.

“I hope I can help the team achieve things this year. I can’t wait to get going.”

Hugo is available for selection for Saturday’s NPL home game with Newcastle Town.

Welcome to Rammy, Hugo!
