KUDA HITS 2K IN PADIHAM GLOOM
RAMSBOTTOM UNITED’s 2000 SEMI-PROFESSIONAL GOALS
When Kuda Chingwaro scored our only goal in Tuesday’s heavy defeat at Padiham, it marked Ramsbottom United’s 2000th goal in the semi-professional era since making the step up from the Manchester League to the North West Counties in the 1995/96 season.
It has taken 1,132 games to reach that mark and it is probably no surprise that the clubs’ record goalscorer Russell Brierley dominates the milestone list below.
Current club President Phil Rose had the honour of scoring the Rams’ historic opener back on 19 August 1995, ahead of Mark Isherwood and Steve Johnson in the 3-1 win on the Fylde coast.
Brierley slotted Rammy’s 100th, 200th, 400th and 500th goals while the prolific David Yorke-Robinson was the meat in the Brierley sandwich, scoring the 300th in 1999.
Striker Carl Lomax had the honour of scoring the Rams’ 1000th strike in the win over Alsager Town in November 2009 – a game that would be overshadowed by the events that followed later that evening in Manchester city centre involving Matt Edgington.
Both Ryan Moore and Phil Dean got on the list twice while there is a special mention for Marske United’s Leon Scott would find himself on this momentous list by scoring the Rams’ 1800th in 2019.
Is that THE Leon Scott from the Darlington 1883 NPL play-off semi-final game in 2014, substituted after seven minutes after THAT Owen Roberts tackle …. yes, it sure is!!
29 seasons, 482 wins, 421 defeats, 229 draws in that time to reach the 2000 goals as Kuda Chingwaro joins this illustrious parade of Ramsbottom United legends.
