EWES SLIP AS LEAGUE ACTION RETURNS

RAMSBOTTOM UNITED WOMEN 1
AFC URMSTON MEADOWSIDE WOMEN 4
Sunday 8th March 2026
The Ewes were back in league action after two cup games and hoping to keep their spot in the table just above their opponents Urmston.
Rammy started the brighter with a Pearson shot in the second minute being pushed out by the keeper. The resulting corner was headed over, as was a second corner five minutes later.
It was Urmston who struck first though with a looping shot from the edge of the box in the 14th minute. Chances followed at both ends, including a penalty shout for the Ewes when Westerman was brought down in the box, and a disallowed goal for Westerman who was deemed to have fouled the keeper.
Urmston increased their lead through a free kick in the 43rd minute. Despite a couple more shots by the Ewes before half-time they disappointingly had nothing to show for their efforts at the halfway point.
HT 0-2
The 30 minute period after the break was all about Rammy. A trademark long-range Woods strike hit the bar, Haworth shot just over, and Booth battled well in the box but her attempt agonisingly hit the post.
Then in the 66th minute Hodcroft ran onto a weak backpass from the visitors and stayed strong against the keeper to stroke the ball into the net to reduce the deficit. Urmston came close to increasing the gap again when a free-kick hit the bar, but their narrow lead remained.
In the 73rd minute Rammy thought they had equalised through Westerman when she lost her marker and ran onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Albo-Elliott. Sadly the referee blew for offside much to the protests of players and supporters alike.
Five minutes later an Urmston shot hit the bar and they reacted quickest to put the rebound in from close range. And they grabbed their fourth soon after with another close range shot to take an unassailable lead.
Try as they might, The Ewes got no further reward for their endeavours before the final whistle blew and were left shaking their heads, wondering how they had come away with nothing from the game after creating so many chances again.
