The Ewes kept their unbeaten run going but were disappointed to only have one point to show for a strong performance.

During an entertaining first half, Rammy showed just how far they’ve come since their formation in the summer. The midfield and attackers continually linked up well and kept the Ashton keeper busy, whilst the defence held firm and thwarted any Ashton attacks, leaving Simpson little to do in the Rammy goal. Despite the pressure they piled on, the Ewes couldn’t find a way through though, and it was somewhat surprising when the half ended goal-less.

HT 0-0

The breakthrough for Rammy came early in the second half when Downey put a fantastic corner in from the right and Pearson timed her run perfectly to slot the ball away at the far post. For the next 20 minutes there were chances for both teams, most notably a looping Downey shot which look destined for the back of the net, only to be prevented by an impressive fingertip save by the Ashton keeper. The equaliser came when Ashton’s no 5 reacted quickly to a loose ball, playing it into the path of her teammate who shot low into the corner, with Simpson just unable to stop it.

Ten minutes later Rammy regained the lead when Worsick intercepted the ball and passed to Woods who strode forward and shot from long range into the top left corner. This should’ve cemented a deserved win for the Ewes but unfortunately a few minutes before the end, a mix up at the back resulted in an own goal and Ashton finished the game much the happier team.

FT 2-2

Although the result was not what they wanted, the Ewes should be encouraged by the progress they are making, and by spectators commenting on the improvement they’ve seen in the team recently.
