EWES HAVE TO WAIT FOR SECOND WIN

ASHTON ON MERSEY FC LADIES 3
RAMSBOTTOM UNITED WOMEN 2
Sunday 9th November 2025

With Ashton on Mersey yet to register a point, Rammy were hoping to push on from last week’s win, but a short period in the second half again proved their undoing and they will have to wait for their second win.

Rammy got into their stride the quickest and scored in the third minute when Downey’s ball from the right reached Pearson on the edge of the box, and her shot looped in over the keeper.

As the rain started to fall the game evened out with a few shots from each side both on and off target. Ashton made their breakthrough on 39 minutes when they beat Rammy’s high line by the closest of margins and lifted a shot in over Simpson in goal.

HT 1-1

Ashton struck twice early in the second half when a freekick into the box on 55 mins was slotted home, followed by a looping shot from the right which found the net less than two minutes later. Rammy battled back into the game and were rewarded when Sharples’ well weighted ball forward was picked up by Hodcroft who strode forward and put it in over the keeper from the right edge of the box.

The Ewes continued to push for an equaliser forcing multiple tackles and saves from Ashton who also had some chances of their own, but ultimately couldn’t find the net again and slipped to a disappointing defeat.
