After recent scorelines that didn’t do The Ewes justice, they finally registered their first league win of the season with a commanding performance against AFC Oldham Reserves.

The front line of Hodcroft, Woods and Duffy and midfield of Pearson, Sharples and Kirk were a threat throughout the match and the only surprise was how long it took for one of them to score. There were a couple of uncertain moments early on where AFC Oldham got in scoring positions but The Ewes collectively stood firm and didn’t allow them to get ahead.

After multiple shots by Rammy both on and off target, including two from Woods and Pearson which both hit the post and one from Sharples which glanced off the bar, the deadlock was broken midway through the first half when a ball over the top by Worsick found Woods who slotted it past the keeper. More chances followed for Rammy, and one for AFC Oldham, but the first half ended just 1-0.

In the second half Rammy continued to pile on the pressure in search of another goal, keeping the AFC Oldham keeper very busy. AFC Oldham began playing the ball long but Simpson in goal and the Rammy defence of Roberts, Todd, Downey and Worsick dealt with this change well. Half way through the second half The Ewes made the breakthrough they deserved when Todd smashed the ball in the net from a Duffy corner.

Try as they might they couldn’t increase the score after that and the match ended 2-0 with the team thrilled to have gained all three points for the first time and pleased to have created so many chances.
