EARLY GOAL SETS TONE IN BIG WIN

RAMSBOTTOM UNITED WOMEN 4
AFC STOCKPORT LIONESSES 0
Sunday 22nd March 2026 2pm

The Ewes asserted their authority from the outset, taking the lead as early as the second minute. Westerman lost her marker, drove into the left side of the box, and calmly finished into the bottom right corner.

More chances followed for Rammy, including a Westeman header from a Duffy corner, a Duffy shot from the right, and a pintpoint through-ball from Howarth to Duffy, all of which forced saves from the away keeper. Meanwhile Hill in the Rammy goal had little to do.

In the 34th minute, after successfully dealing with a Stockport attack, The Ewes doubled their lead. Woods sent the ball upfield to Duffy who outpaced the defence and chipped the keeper. Rammy nearly added a third a few minutes later, but a defender cleared Barlow’s effort off the line before the keeper dived low to deny Downey’s follow-up.

HT: 2-0

The second half began much like the first with Rammy striking early again. This time via a Woods freekick from well outside the box which sailed in over the keeper.

Rammy continued to battle well and retain possession although perhaps with fewer clear-cut chances than in the first half. Notably, Hill was called into action in the 64th minute, positioning herself well to stop a Stockport effort, while Barlow saw a shot saved at the other end shortly after.

The Ewes sealed the victory in the 83rd minute when Duffy perfectly weighted her pass down the left to Booth who strode into the box and slotted the ball away neatly between the post and the keeper. Rammy can go confidently into this Sunday’s double-header against Hindley after this dominant performance where players excelled in every area of the pitch.
