The Rams might have gone three games without a win but you would certainly forgive manager Chris Willcock if he started to channel his inner Russell Crowe!

With defeats to Clitheroe, a penalty shoot out reverse at Worksop Town and the disappointing last minute goal that saw Kendal Town snatch a 2-2 draw on Tuesday evening, Willcock’s side have still managed to score 26 goals in the ten games played so far.

So, despite the recent winless streak, the manager could, like Crowe in the 2000 film Gladiator roar “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?”!!!!

The answer to that question would most definitely be ‘yes’ as it is the highest tally of goals scored in the opening ten competitive fixtures in our semi-professional history as Sefton Gonzales has helped himself to a magnificent seven goals and Mason Fawns an impressive five but, even more pleasing is that eight other players have all found their way onto the scoresheet too.

This 10 game opening spell surpasses the 2009/10 and 2004/05 seasons that saw 23 goals scored in the same time scale.

Gonzales also becomes the sixth player in Ramsbottom United history to score seven goals in the first ten competitive games.

He joins the club’s leading goalscorer Russ Brierley (2001/02 season), Anthony Johnson (2009/10), Jon Robinson (2010/11), Jordan Hulme (2014/15) and, most recently, Ruben Jerome just last season which helped us 20 goals, in scoring seven from the opening ten.

Our worst ever start to a season – and this will come as little surprise for all of you who have been reading the “On This Saturday” features on the Rammy Stats website – came in the 2015/16 season. Lee Gaskell scored three but he rather stood alone as we totaled only seven successful strikes.

Entertaining this season most definitely has been, with us scoring at least one goal in every single game played, while we have notched four on three occasions and three twice thus far.

Long may it continue – whether we can watch it or not, the football on the park is a pleasure to behold.

Come on you Rams!!!
