NEW GAFFERS KICK OFF WITH A WIN

AFC URMSTON MEADOWSIDE LADIES 0
RAMSBOTTOM UNITED WOMEN 2

Sunday 30th November 2025

In their first game under new management The Ewes started strong with several attempts on goal in the first five minutes before Urmston settled into the game themselves and started to test the visitors more. Rammy continued to create chances, most notably in the 21st minute when the Urmston keeper got down well to stop Hodcroft’s close range shot.

The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Westerman was tripped in the box and the ref pointed to the spot. Westerman stepped up and unleashed an unstoppable penalty into the top right corner to give Rammy the lead.

HT 0-1

As icy rain began to fall at the beginning of the second half the Ewes piled on the pressure and it wasn’t long before they got a deserved second goal. Roberts’ ball to the edge of the box was controlled by Duffy and then nudged into the path of Hodcroft who blasted it past the keeper (pictured above).

The remainder of the game was an end to end affair with Rammy protecting their lead resolutely whilst still pushing forward to try and increase that lead. There were no further goals however and the game ended with a well-earned win and clean sheet for The Ewes.

FT 0-2

They will be hoping it’s third time lucky for this win after having their previous two wins this season chalked off – the first for fielding an inelligible player in a cup game, and the second when AFC Oldham folded and results were removed.
